The Fayetteville Police Department is urging residents and visitors to take precautions to ensure their safety during the holiday season.

According to a news release, the department has increased officer presence on major roads and at business centers. As of Monday, officers had made more than 100 traffic stops; made 10 arrests, including six felony arrests; completed more than 40 incident and crash reports; and more than 200 directed patrols and park-and-walks, the release said.

The increased officer presence will continue throughout the holiday shopping season, the release said.

The department offered these safety tips for holiday shoppers:

  • Park near a light.
  • Use the buddy system and don’t shop alone.
  • Shop with a single credit card.
  • Hide packages in the trunk of your vehicle.
  • Avoid using ATMs.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should call 911 or contact CrimeStoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477) or http://fay-nccrimestoppers.org.
