1 dead, 1 injured when shots fired at vehicle on South Raeford Road

One man was killed and another was injured when someone fired gunshots at their vehicle while traveling on Raeford Road on Tuesday night, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The shootings were reported just after 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 7300 block of South Raeford Road, a news release said.

Police officers found a man who had been struck by gunfire while riding in a vehicle, the release said. A second man in the vehicle also had gunshot wounds and was declared dead on the scene. He was identified as Shaquille Deonte Bratcher, 29, the release said. 

The vehicle had been hit by gunfire numerous times, and the driver ran off the road and down an embankment, the release said. The vehicle struck another vehicle, but the driver of the second vehicle was not injured and was not involved in the shooting, police said.

South Raeford Road was closed in both directions between Pinewood Terrace and Rayconda Place, but it has been reopened, the news release said.
