Mr. Bobby Glynn Cooper, 89, of Salemburg, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus while surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Bobby was born July 1, 1933, in Salemburg, where he lived all his life.  He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and lifelong member of Salemburg Baptist Church.  Bobby was a proud veteran of the United States Army, drafted in 1953 and stationed in Germany during the Korean conflict.  Bobby was a skilled machinist and mechanic who never retired, and many relied on him for auto, tractor and lawnmower repairs.  Bobby was always willing to help others and was known for being hardworking, dependable and fair.  He was a dedicated blood donor to the Sampson County Blood Bank for over 50 years.  As his final gift, Bobby made a whole-body donation to Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, in honor of his son and former graduate, Dr. Richard Cooper.

Bobby is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Shirley McLamb Cooper, of the home; three children: Stephanie C. Shelton of Fayetteville, Dr. Richard G. Cooper of Valdosta, GA, and Douglas L. Cooper of Salemburg; siblings: Jean C. Holland of Wilson and Max T. (Faye) Cooper of Salemburg; five grandchildren, Kyle (Darcy) Cooper, DPT, Haley Cooper (Jason) McGuirt, JD, Andrew Cooper, Hannah Cooper, and Gracie Cooper; and four great-grandchildren: Ava Cooper, Sadie Cooper, Saylor McGuirt, and Marin McGuirt.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robbie Lee and Glendon Butler Cooper, and his brother, Donald Lee Cooper.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Salemburg Baptist Church, and the family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45-1:45 p.m., in the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, consider donating blood to your local blood bank or donating to a charity of your choice in memory of Bobby.
