Brady selected for Southeast Tourism Society Board
Angie Brady, the director of tourism marketing for the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, has been selected as the North Carolina representative on the Southeast Tourism Society board.
The society is a trade association comprised of 13 states and the District of Columbia. Brady will work with other state representatives to create new initiatives based on advocacy and policy issues impacting the tourism industry, according to a news release.
“The Southeast Tourism Society’s regional impact on travel and tourism through advocacy and empowerment of industry leaders is immense,” Brady said in the release. “I am grateful for this opportunity to join the board and eager to begin working alongside other impactful leaders across the southeast region.”
Brady has been with the Fayetteville visitors bureau for 14 years. During that time, she pioneered several projects, including the Cultural Heritage Trails program, the “Be a Guest in Your Hometown” Passport, the regional Wayfinding Signage project, the Hometown Hops Brewery Passport and Heroes Homecoming, the release said.
“Angie is well deserving of this highly recognized position representing both the Fayetteville area and the state of North Carolina,” said Randy Fiveash, the interim president and CEO of the visitors bureau. “We look forward to watching her make a tremendous impact on the organization and the tourism industry as a whole, just as she has in our community.”
Foley named credit union CEO of the Year
Steve Foley, CEO and president of Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union, has been named CEO of the Year for credit unions under $250 million in assets by the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions.
Elected by the NAFCU Awards Committee, Foley is being recognized for his vision, leadership and management that has led to 107% growth from 2018 to 2022, the release said.
“We knew when we hired Steve four years ago, we had someone who would lead our credit union to new levels of success,” Bragg Mutual Chairman John Szoka said in the release. “His dedicated efforts are reflected in the continued success of Bragg Mutual FCU demonstrating thoughtful leadership skills, as well as developing new ideas that are beneficial to our organization's growth.”
Under Foley’s direction, the credit union upgraded digital banking services, expanded the field of membership, diversified the loan portfolio, reduced expenses and placed a stronger commitment to compliance, the release said.
“Steve has led our credit union into becoming one of the fastest growing credit unions in our state,” Szoka said. “To be selected as the national award winner by his credit union peers reflects his exemplary services on behalf of our members.”
Bragg Mutual, with $110 million in total assets, is now the 23rd largest credit union in North Carolina, the release said.
“Our team here at Bragg Mutual has tremendous spirit, dedication and servant hearts, which is how we’ve achieved the success we’ve experienced over the past four years,” Foley said. “I am truly grateful to have a team that is looking to improve the lives of many in our region.”
Skeens named assistant county manager
Heather Skeens, the director of Social Services, has been named the new assistant Cumberland County manager for community support.
County Manager Amy Cannon made the announcement Monday. Skeens’ first day in the new position will be Oct. 3.
Skeens has been the county DSS director since Dec. 6. Prior to that, she was the Health and Human Services director in Guilford County. She previously worked for Cumberland County DSS for eight years, serving as assistant director of Children’s Services and the deputy director, the county said in a release. She has previously worked in Onslow County and with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
“Heather has done an exceptional job during her time as Cumberland County’s Social Services director, and in her previous position in Guilford County, she also supervised the functions of Public Health, Child Support, Veterans Services, Mental Health and Homelessness,” Cannon said in the release. “Heather will be an asset to our team and her vast background in Human Services will be valuable in advancing several of the board’s priorities. I am excited to bring her into the county management team and know she will be of great benefit to our organization and to the citizens of Cumberland County.”
Cumberland County seeking vendors for employee wellness fair
Cumberland County is seeking health and wellness-related vendors to take part in its Employee Wellness Fair on Oct. 17-21 at the Crown Expo Center.
In the past, 275 county employees have visited the fair each day, county officials said in a release.
Hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 19; and 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 18, 20 and 21.
The deadline for vendors to register is Oct. 7. Tables will be provided and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, the release said.
The county is looking for vendors who can provide information on health and wellness-related topics such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, weight management, hearing, vision, tobacco cessation, physical activity, nutrition, stress management, behavioral health, safety and more, the release said. The goal is to encourage county employees to lead a healthier lifestyle and improve their overall health, the release said.
Cumberland County has contracted with Proactive MD to run its Employee Wellness Clinic. During the annual wellness fair, Proactive MD will screen employees for risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes, the release said.

Miller-Motte hosting Community Resource Open House
Miller-Motte College in Fayetteville is looking for groups to participate in its Community Resource Open House on Sept. 28.
The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on its campus at 3725 Ramsey St. There is no cost for employers or community groups to participate, the college said in a release. However, groups that plan to participate should register.
