Recruit Military will host the first Fort Liberty jobs fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at 2658 Rock Merritt Ave.

More than 60 employers have registered to present employment opportunities for veterans, military spouses, and members of the National Guard and reserve.

Recruit Military has more than 300,000 jobs listed on its job board at recruitmilitary.com. More than 14,000 of these jobs are in North Carolina, the company says.

Its last two Fort Liberty jobs fairs resulted in 528 job offers extended.

Main Event set for grand opening with prizes

Main Event will open its first North Carolina location on Wednesday, with grand-opening activities from Friday through Aug. 13.

The entertainment center and restaurant will open at 580 Cross Creek Mall with more than 38,000 square feet of food service and interactive games, according to a news release.

On Friday, the first 200 customers will win a year of laser tag. Doors will open at noon.

A donation of $10 will be made for every strike bowled with a goal of raising $10,000 for Fayetteville Urban Ministry.

On Aug. 13, the Big Super Fun Sundae Challenge will award a free sundae to any family who can finish a sundae in five minutes.

Main Event Fayetteville offers laser tag, video games, virtual reality, and 18 bowling lanes, the news release said. Its Family Kitchen serves classic American dishes with a twist, the news release said.

Birthday party packages and private meeting spaces also are available.

Regular hours will be 10 a.m.-1 a.m. Monday; 10 a.m.-midnight Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m.-2 a.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-2 a.m. Saturday; 10 a.m.-midnight Sunday. For more information or to book space, visit mainevent.com.

Main Event is owned by Dave & Buster’s Entertainment and operates 58 centers in 19 states, the news release said.

Metronet ranked fastest internet provider in Fayetteville

Metronet, the nation’s largest independently owned fiber-optic provider, has been ranked the fastest internet service provider in Fayetteville and Greenville, according to a company news release.

Recent data from Ookla Speedtest Intelligence ranks Metronet the fastest internet provider in Fayetteville with a median download speed of 351.33 megabits per second and median upload speed of 303.78 Mbps for the second quarter of 2023, the release said.

Ookla also ranked Metronet the fastest internet service provider in New Bern, Jacksonville, and Winterville.

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center ranked as high-performing

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center has been recognized as a high-performing hospital for 2023-24 by U.S. News & World Report in seven care areas. Hoke Hospital was recognized for one specialty.

Overall, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center ranked 17th in North Carolina, according to a news release.

The annual “Best Hospitals” rankings, now in their 34th year, are designed to assist patients and doctors in making informed decisions about where to get care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures, the release said.

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center was recognized as high-performing for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, and stroke. Hoke Hospital received a high-performing rating for COPD.

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties.
