A ribbon-cutting to celebrate the reopening of Dorothy Gilmore Therapeutic Recreation Center is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the center, 1600 Purdue Drive.
The Gilmore renovation includes a new interactive sensory room and family restrooms, remodeled kitchen with updated appliances, resurfaced parking lot, and new paint and flooring throughout the facility, according to a news release.
The project also includes a nearly 4,000-square-foot expansion making the new size of the center 15,444 square feet.
The project received $775,000 from the parks and recreation bond package passed by city voters in 2016. Cumberland County contributed $100,000, and the state contributed $500,000, the release said.
The center, operated by Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation, serves people with special needs.
