CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Commissioners to discuss appointed board terms, hear ARPA presentation

Posted

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will meet 9 a.m. on Monday for the board’s first meeting of November. Here’s what’s ahead.

  • Commissioners will hear a presentation on the county’s American Rescue Plan & Special Project Dashboards. No action will be taken after the presentation.
  • Commissioners are also set to vote on the approval of a requested exception to the two consecutive term limit rule for county boards and commissions.
    • The Cumberland County Civic Center Commission is a nine-member board overseeing the Crown Event Center on Coliseum Drive; the commission has requested that the county board approve staggered third terms for its members so they can stay on the board until the new center is finished. Currently, the second terms of all nine members will expire before the expected completion of the new downtown Crown Event Center in November 2025.
    • The approval of the request would extend three members’ terms until 2026, another three until 2027, and the final three until 2028.
  • Commissioners will also make nominations for positions including four Transportation Advisory Board members and two Cumberland County Emergency Planning Committee members, as well as the appointment of two Library Board of Trustees members.
  • Commissioners are also set to vote on a lengthy 13-item consent agenda that includes improvements to Cumberland County’s 911 call center, the approval of budget amendments and a proclamation in support of Operation Green Light.
    • Operation Green Light seeks to show support for veterans by having counties nationwide display green lights in windows from Nov. 6-12. Cumberland County has the third highest veterans’ population, with over 52,000 veterans, according to county estimates.

As part of the meeting agenda, commissioners will vote on the dates for their 2024 meetings, including both regular meetings and agenda sessions. With few exceptions, regular meetings take place on the first and third Mondays of each month, aside from July. (Commissioners don’t meet in July when the fiscal year begins.)
