Community groups package meals as part of United Way campaign

The meals will be distributed to Fayetteville Urban Ministry and Catholic Charities

About 250 volunteers from groups throughout Fayetteville and Cumberland County came together Thursday for United Way’s second annual meal packing campaign kickoff.

United Way of Cumberland County said 35,346 meals were given to the Emergency Assistance Food Pantry program at Fayetteville Urban Ministry and Food Pantry Services at Catholic Charities.

Some of the groups that helped package meals included the Fayetteville Public Works Commission, the town of Hope Mills, the city of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Goodyear Tire & Rubber, United Healthcare, Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, Metronet, BluSky Restoration, athletes from Fayetteville Technical Community College, the Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union and Cumberland County Schools.

The meals were packaged at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church.
