Cooperative Extension to hold workshops on dairy farming

Cumberland County Cooperative Extension plans workshops on dairy farming in August.

The “Dairy Delights” series is part of the service’s Better Living Workshops, according to a news release.

Activities will include a tour of the Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum in Raleigh and two workshops to be held at the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension auditorium, 301 E. Mountain Drive.

The series will include:

  • Dairy farm tour, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum. Transportation will be provided. Participants will learn how milk gets from farm to table and enjoy Howling Cow ice cream. Lunch will be at the Farmers Market. Registration is $15 and is due by July 28.
  • Making Cheese, noon-2 p.m. Aug. 9. Participants will learn to make mozzarella cheese using a handful of ingredients. A registration fee of $12 is due by Aug. 4.
  • Making Yogurt, noon-2 p.m. Aug. 23. Participants will learn to make simple and healthy yogurt at home using just a few ingredients. A registration fee of $12 is due by Aug.18.
