FAYETTEVILLE CITY COUNCIL

Council to hold hearing on homeless shelter, receive police quarterly report at Monday meeting

Posted

The Fayetteville City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 433 Hay St. The lengthy agenda marks the final regular meeting of the current council, as new members will be sworn in on Dec. 6, following the current council’s final work session on Dec. 4.

Here's a look at the agenda highlights:

  • County homeless shelter hearing: The council will hold an evidentiary hearing to consider a special use permit for Cumberland County’s proposed homeless shelter in Fayetteville. While members of the homeless community have applauded the county’s shelter initiative, nearby residents have expressed concern over how the project will affect them.
  • Police and fire department quarterly report: The Fayetteville Police Department and Fayetteville Fire Department chiefs will present public safety data from their departments for the third quarter for 2023, spanning from July through September. The data will include statistics like response times, crime trends and public safety initiatives.
  • Affordable housing vote: The council will hear an update from city staff on an affordable housing project on Rosehill Road. The nonprofit developer of the project is asking the city for a loan commitment of $750,000 from American Rescue Plan Act funds to construct 16 single-family detached homes, of which 9 will be available to low and moderate income first-time homebuyers.

The council meeting will be aired on Spectrum Cable Channel 7 and live-streamed at faytv.net.
