Crime Scene Library program returns Oct. 28

Crime Scene Library, an all-day series of presentations and interactive exhibitions for true-crime fans, returns from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane in Fayetteville, according to a news release.

Scheduled guests and presentations include:

• Amanda Lamb, WRAL reporter and author, on "Podcasting Is the Future."
• Khalid Lodhi, director of the forensic science program at Fayetteville State University, on "How Bed Bugs Solve Crimes: New DNA Vectors and Their Role in Criminal Investigation."
• Christine Mumma, executive director of the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence, on "Reversing Injustice: How Wrongful Convictions Happen and Take Decades to Fix."
• Christopher Thrasher, history and political science instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College, on "The Trial of Ann K. Simpson," the first woman tried for murder in Cumberland County.
• Dave Pauly, Steve Downs and Isis Tutman, of the forensic science department at Methodist University, on "Modern-Day Forensic Science: Latent Fingerprint Processing and DNA Extraction."
• Methodist University’s legal studies program on "Paralegals and Trial Preparations in Criminal Cases."
• Fayetteville Police Department’s forensic unit with an interactive crime scene for participants to explore.

The Crime Scene Library 2023 case file, found at bit.ly/crimescenelibrary, provides intelligence about the speakers and their presentations. The site also offers supporting evidence, such as true-crime trivia, a virtual escape room, reading recommendations, streaming music and videos, the release said.

At the end of the event, drawings for door prizes will be awarded, including gift vouchers for local escape rooms, crime investigation games and other true crime-related prizes, the release said.

Crime Scene Library 2023 is geared toward an adult audience. Portions of some presentations may be too graphic for younger or more sensitive audiences, the release said.

The program is made possible by Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library.
