Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. Nov. 17

Cumberland County Cooperative Extension and the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville will host the Agricultural Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which takes place at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse, in Room 118 (Commissioner’s Meeting Room). The event celebrates and honors two outstanding agricultural leaders in Cumberland County.

Joseph (Joe) H. Gillis will be recognized and honored as the 2023 Agricultural Hall of Fame inductee. His induction ceremony will include a short video, remarks and the unveiling of his portrait. The portrait will be added to the Agricultural Hall of Fame in the I.B. Julian Auditorium, located at Cumberland County Cooperative Extension, 301 E. Mountain Dr., Fayetteville. Jessica Gillis Lee, 2023 Cumberland County Outstanding Young Farmer, will also be recognized during the ceremony.

Following the induction ceremony, the annual Farm City luncheon will be held at the Kiwanis Recreation Center where the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville will continue its traditional “Salute to Agriculture.” The event begins at 1 p.m. at the Kiwanis Recreation Center, located at 352 Devers St., Fayetteville. During the luncheon, Gillis and Lee will both be honored. 

Cumberland County is pleased to recognize their contributions to the agricultural community.
