Death investigation on River Road leads to murder charge

On Nov. 11, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6000 block of River Road for a death investigation. The victim was identified as Christopher Torok. The cause of death was unable to be determined during the initial investigation. An autopsy was performed and determined Torok died as a result of blunt force trauma.

On Dec. 5, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 50-year-old Kareem Jamal Butler of Fayetteville for 1st-degree murder. Butler was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. His first appearance will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
