Fayetteville police investigating sexual assault

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department are investigating a sexual assault that was reported early Sunday on Shaw Road.

Officers responded to the call on the 1400 block of Shaw Road around 1:45 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was randomly identified and assaulted by a man who forced his way into her home, police said in a release. 

The Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the man.

He is described as approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds with a low afro style haircut, police said. He was described as approximately 25 years of age with a strong build.  He was wearing light-colored jeans, a blue shirt, a light jacket, tennis shoes and a gray knitted cap with a brim. The man was operating a black "dually" truck, a heavy-duty pickup with two rear wheels on each side.
