Fayetteville’s city-owned power company, the Public Works Commission, is one of 66 electric utilities to receive a Smart Energy Provider designation this year from the American Public Power Association.
The PWC’s board is to hear a presentation about the award during its semi-monthly meeting on Wednesday morning. The Public Power Association announced 66 designees in November.
Winners are recognized for “demonstrating commitment to and accomplishment in smart energy program planning, energy efficiency and distributed energy resources, environmental and sustainability programs, and communication and customer experience,” the American Public Power Association website says.
This is the third time the PWC has won the Smart Energy Provider award. The designation runs for two years, from Dec. 1, 2023, to Nov. 30, 2025. It previously received the designation in 2021 and 2019.
In other matters, the commission is to award bids for manhole repair and maintenance, authorize the sale of surplus property and make several budget adjustments.
The meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the PWC office at 955 Old Wilmington Road. Click here to view the agenda materials.
