Fayetteville Woodpeckers to have sensory bags available for fans

Segra Stadium earns sensory inclusive certification

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers have announced a plan to help those who have sensory sensitivities better enjoy their experience at Segra Stadium.

The organization will have sensory bags available for checkout during games. Each bag will contain headphones, fidget tools and verbal cue cards. A weighted lap pad will also be available for checkout, the Woodpeckers said in a release.

The stadium earned sensory inclusive certification in February. Half of the Woodpeckers front office completed training through KultureCity, a national nonprofit that advocates for sensory needs, the release said.

The Woodpeckers Foundation provided $1,000 for the initiative, which included the certification and the purchase of five sensory bags and the weighted lap pad, the release said.

The sensory bags may be checked out at the guest services table behind section 125.

People with autism, dementia, post-traumatic stress and other similar conditions may experience sensory sensitivities or challenges with sensory regulation, the release said. They may be sensitive to overstimulation and noise.

The home opener for the Woodpeckers is Tuesday against the Salem Red Sox.
