Flora C. Patton

Posted

Flora was born in Loris, South Carolina on July 13, 1937, the youngest child of Leon Bailey Todd and Sarah K. McDaniel.

She was married 67 years to her beloved husband, Carlton Alton Patton, Sr. (August 6, 1955).  Together they spent 30 years traveling through the U.S., Europe and Asia while Carlton served in the U.S. Air Force.  After retirement, they traveled another 20 years, predominantly between Minot, ND and Shreveport, LA, while Carlton worked as an aircraft fabrication engineer for Lockheed Martin.

They put down roots in Johnsonville, NC, in the summer of 1974.  By then, their four kids were, for the most part, young adults, and Carlton finished his military career at, what was then, Pope Air Force Base.  When home, Flora was busy doing what she knew and enjoyed best, working in her vegetable gardens.  Dinners through the fall and winter months almost always included something that was grown and prepared by her hands.

Surviving are her children: James Patton, Donna Patton-Ravin, Don Patton, Alton Patton, Jr. and their spouses; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.  She is predeceased by two brothers, Earl Todd and Leon (Junior) Todd; two sisters, Edith McKinney and Lucille Wallace; and her great-grandchild, Bentley Chase Patton.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 11, 2022 at 10 am, at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church, 384 Hillmon Grove Road, Cameron, NC, in her community she loved.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, embroidery, gardening and her two cats, Fancy and Blue-Boy.

Over the years, she accumulated quite a collection of newspaper and periodical clippings that resonated with her: Dear Abby postings, cartoons, etc.

We shed tears because we will miss her, but she is now singing in the heavens!!
