Freeze watch in effect late Tuesday for Cumberland, surrounding counties

A freeze watch has been issued for Cumberland and surrounding counties for late Tuesday night through early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

Temperatures between 28 and 30 degrees are possible, the advisory says.

The freeze watch is in effect for Cumberland, Johnston, Harnett, Wayne, Scotland, Hoke and Sampson counties.

Frost and freeze conditions could endanger crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, the Weather Service says.

A low of 34 was forecast for Monday night in Fayetteville. Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 53, the Weather Service says. Tuesday night’s low in Fayetteville is forecast to be about 31. Wednesday will bring more sunny skies with a high near 56, the forecast says.

By Friday, the high is forecast to be near 75 with a 70% chance of showers Friday night and a 60% chance on Saturday.
