A new digital archive will feature interviews with students of Fayetteville Technical Community College and Fayetteville State University who visited Selma, Alabama, according to a news release.
Students from FTCC and FSU visited a number of landmarks central to the civil rights movement and Black history, including the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and National Voting Rights Museum.
The five-day trip, which was made possible through a community engagement grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council, included the Student Leadership Conference and stops at the Jubilee Festival and Parade as well as the Intergenerational Hip Hop Summit.
To help document the trip, instructors and mentors interviewed students immediately after each stop, recording students’ reflections on the lessons learned and emotions evoked at each site. Instructors and mentors also recorded their own thoughts.
The first set of recordings is available as part of the Voices of Selma Project in the digital archives at FTCC’s Paul H. Thompson Library. More recordings will be added over coming weeks. To listen to the recordings, visit https://ftccarchive.omeka.net/collections/show/8.
