Gary "Doug" Ewing, 73, of Cameron, NC. A beloved husband, father, friend and veteran, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and son.

Born in Miami, FL, on January 25, 1951, Doug was the firstborn son of the late Charles D. and Alice Shaw Ewing. He spent his formative years in Florida and Maine. Besides his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister, Monya Wilson.

Doug is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela "Pam" Gagnon Ewing; son, Joseph "Joe" Ewing; his cherished granddaughter, Grace Ewing and her mother Bobbi; his dear sister, Theda Ewing; his "favorite" mother-in-law, Pauline M. Gagnon and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts.

In 1969, Doug answered the call to serve his country and was drafted into the Navy. He proudly served for several years before being honorably discharged. Following his military service, Doug settled in Massachusetts, where he welcomed his son, Joseph Ewing, into the world.

Throughout his life, Doug worked as an electrical engineer for various high-tech companies, showcasing his natural talent in the field. However, his true passion lay in aviation. In the early 90's, Doug achieved his lifelong dream of obtaining a private pilot's license. He and his co-owner affectionately dubbed their Cessna aircraft "Catfish," spending countless hours soaring through the New England skies, especially relishing the cold, crisp nights when Catfish "loved to fly."

As aviation expenses soared, Doug redirected his flight interests towards building remote-control model planes. Despite his aversion to following instructions and tedious work, he meticulously crafted a beautiful 1/4-scale yellow cubby RC plane from a kit, demonstrating his determination and love for aviation.

In his later years, Doug found solace and purpose in his faith journey. He discovered the love of the Lord and became an active member of Calvary Church, where he found fellowship, community, and spiritual nourishment. Doug's faith blossomed as he immersed himself in studying God's word, a practice he cherished, especially when shared with his beloved wife, Pam. Together, they found joy in exploring the depths of scripture, strengthening their bond as husband and wife while deepening their connection to their faith. Doug's journey of faith enriched his life and touched the hearts of those around him, leaving a legacy of devotion, love, and spiritual enlightenment.

Doug will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his adventurous spirit, and his dedication to his country and his passions. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of strong will and determination.

Visitation for Doug will be held from 10:30am until 12:00pm on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Calvary Church, 185 Calvary Church Road, Olivia, NC 28368. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00pm. Burial with Navy Honors will immediately follow the service at Calvary Church Cemetery.
