George Franklin Hager, 76, of Fayetteville passed away on February 1, 2024.

George was born in Mooresville, NC on October 15, 1947. His parents were George Washington Hager and Grace Elizabeth Ballad Hager. He was the second of three children, having an older sister and later a younger sister. His family moved to Charlotte, NC before the children started school.

George graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1965. He worked for Winn Dixie Food Stores before enlisting in the Air Force in October 1966. He became an aerospace ground equipment technician. He loved the Air Force, which gave him the opportunity to use his mechanical abilities as well as a chance to travel the world. He served for over 22 years, retiring in Fayetteville, the home of his last base. In March of 1975, George married Brenda Susan Pate who happened to live just across the street from him in Charlotte.

George was an avid golfer. After retiring from the Air Force, he was fortunate enough to land a civil service job on the base golf course in Fayetteville. This job gave him basically unlimited access to the base golf course, and he played at every opportunity. He was a very good golfer.

Even when his health started to fail him, George tried to play 9 holes whenever possible.

George was a Christian and never traveled anywhere without taking his bible and devotional with him. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.

A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Cumberland Memorial Gardens at 12:30 PM.
