George G. Dixon

George Gordon Dixon, 77, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2022.

Gordon was born on October 10, 1944, in Roanoke, VA. He graduated from Mathews Virginia High School in 1962 and started his education journey where he graduated from Methodist University in 1966, the College of William and Mary in 1970, and Post Grad College of William and Mary and Fayetteville State University.

Gordon had many careers in his lifetime working at Gloucester VA High School from 1966 to 1978, Hampton Roads Academy from 1970 to 1971. After leaving Hampton Roads he went to Robert Sugden School as the administrative principal from 1971 to 1974. Upon Gordon moving to Fayetteville area, he worked at Methodist College as the registrar from 1974 to 1983, Fayetteville Academy from 1983 to 1984, and The Cumberland County School system from 1984 to 2004.

Gordon had faith in a Sovereign God, working in church music from the age of 6 and being baptized at the age of 8. He supported local, state, and world missions through mission trips. He was also a big supporter of education, funding scholarships at Methodist University.

Gordon was a former member of the Fayetteville Host Lions Club, where he was Rookie of the Year, and Fayetteville Kiwanis. He was the High PI of Lambda Alpha Fraternity at Methodist College. Gordon was a distinguished Monarch at Methodist College.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Jacqueline Dixon and brother, Faulkner Dixon. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Margaret “Meg” Dixon, and his children, John T. Dixon, John E. Hyde, and J. Nolan Hyde; brother, John F. Dixon; close friends, Dr. Mark Kendrick, Pastors Floyd Benfield, and James Merkel; and doctors at S. Regional AHEC.

The family will greet friends at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home at 1:45 to 2:45 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Rogers and Breece Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sovereign Grace Fellowship at 200 Bragg Blvd. Fayetteville, NC 28303 or to a charity of your choice in Gordon’s name.
