Search for America’s funniest veterans and military spouses is coming to Fayetteville

A multicity search for America’s next great veteran or military spouse comedian is coming to Fayetteville. Operation Heal*arious, an "America's Got Talent"-style showcase tour, is scheduled stop at Cape Fear Regional Theatre on July 29, according to a news release.

Proceeds from the tour benefit Heal*arious, a nonprofit group that provides free therapeutic humor programming for veterans, the release said. 

The tour will wrap up with a Season 1 finale in Hollywood on Nov. 5 and a Season 2 finale in Las Vegas in conjunction with the Military Influencer Conference.

Host and headliners

• Stan Shelby, Navy veteran and Operation Heal*arious host, cut his teeth in the comedy world as a member of the Atlanta comedy community. He has performed across the country.
• Ashley Gutermuth, Air Force spouse, is a Texas-based stand-up comedian and actor. She appeared on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon" and was selected by Jerry Seinfeld to win the ‘Seinfeld Challenge.’ In 2021, Gutermuth won the headliner category of the U.S. Comedy Contest.

Judges

• Dewayne White, an Army veteran, is a D.C.-based standup comedian who performs across the country. He is a combat-wounded veteran who served in the Army for 23 years. His humor is drawn from his  military experience, his life as a husband and father, and the general craziness of life. White started performing standup with the Armed Services Arts Partnership’s Comedy Bootcamp, a crash course in standup comedy for veterans and family members that he now teaches.
• T. Bratton is an Air Force veteran comedian who delivers clean, conscience comedy in a post-pandemic world. He has been in the comedy and performing arts arena for the past seven years and has performed on stages from the iconic and historic Warner Theatre in Washington to the White House.
• Red Squirrel, Army spouse, tours nationally with Southern Momma Tour and Glitter & Grit Comedy Tour.
