The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is warning residents against a scam that is mimicking the department’s phone number.
County officials said robocalls claim to be the Health Department delivering medical information. The scam mimics the department’s main number of 910-433-3600.
“The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will never call and leave medical information in such a manner,’’ the county said in a release.
Health Department employees will not:
*Provide a medical diagnosis or lab results via robocall.
*Provide a medical diagnosis or lab results without first identifying you as the patient or guardian.
*Ask for a social security number or payment via robocall.
Residents who believe they may have been called by the scammers should contact the Attorney General’s Office at 877-5-NO-SCAM, 910-716-6000, or the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at 910- 323-1500.
