Bernice Isabelle Darden Seeley, 94, of Spring Lake, NC sang her final hymn, dusted her last table, and placed her final Christmas decoration on Sunday October 30, 2022.
Isabelle was born March 19, 1928 in Overhills, NC to the late Benjamin Troy Darden and Bernice Taylor Darden. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Robert “Bob” F. Seeley; sisters, Ruth Darden Simmons and Marie Darden Melvin; brothers, David K. Darden, Sr. Robert “Bobby” T. Darden, Sr., and John Frank Darden.
Isabelle is survived by her son, Glenn Seeley; daughter, Beverly Montgomery; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Isabelle travelled extensively throughout Europe while she and Bob lived in Paris, France during his military service. She made numerous friends while in Paris with whom she still had contact. Isabelle worked for the school system in Richmond, VA until she returned to NC in 1984. Shortly after returning home, she along with her sister Ruth, opened Ruffles Boutique, a women’s clothing store in Spring Lake. Later, she went to work for Talbot’s when they opened at Westwood Shopping Center in Fayetteville, NC and remained until she retired. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Spring Lake, NC where she always participated in the choir and truly loved singing for her Lord. Isabelle loved to keep her house clean and her children remember they could never enter the house without hearing her yell “clean your feet” or “take your shoes off” as soon as she heard the door open. She enjoyed working in her yard and decorating for Christmas. To many, her house was known as the Christmas House on Hwy 87. She was the last of the “Greatest Generation” in her large family and will be missed.
There will be a graveside service honoring Isabelle’s life on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 3:00 PM at LaFayette Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Services are entrusted to Adcock Funeral Home and crematory, Spring Lake.
