Joseph Christopher DeVenero

Joseph DeVenero, 62, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away unexpectedly, on April 5, 2024, at his residence.

Joseph (Joe) was born on October 16, 1961, in Springfield, Massachusetts to John and Eileen DeVenero. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Melissa; sister, Johnna; niece, Nicole and many friends and students. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Connie DeVenero, and his brother, Raymond DeVenero.

He was a proud Veteran of the US Army. Master Sergeant DeVenero proudly served with his brothers & sisters of the 1048th Transportation Company. He served his country with honor in Iraq/Kuwait during the Global War on Terrorism.  He received multiple awards such as the Army Commendation Medal, Conduct Medal, National Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Also the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Device/Driver Reserve Badge.

Joe also drove semi-trailer trucks for many years. He currently was a CDL instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College where he became a mentor and friend to many students and staff.

He had a special place in his heart for animals and loved spending time with his dog, Bootsie. He enjoyed teaching, riding ATVs, telling jokes, and being on the road with his motorcycle. 

Those who knew Joe knew he always had a Dunkin coffee in his hand and a smile on his face.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a soon to be announced later date at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
