Man dies after being shot on Tamarack Drive, Fayetteville police say

A man was shot and killed during a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend on Tuesday, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The shooting was reported about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Tamarack Drive, according to a police news release.

Officers found Derek Samuel Spell, 34, suffering from a gunshot wound, the release said. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead.

Amanda Deloris Kelly, 30, who was identified by police as Spell’s girlfriend, was charged in his death. During an argument, the two struggled over a handgun and Spell was shot once in the chest, the news release said.

Kelly was charged with involuntary manslaughter and was held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $20,000 secured bond, the release said.
