A Fayetteville man was found safe after police said he was taken from his home at gunpoint late Thursday.
Joshua Dashawn Smith, 35, of the 7000 block of Jericho Drive, faces kidnapping and other charges in the incident, the Fayetteville Police Department said in a release.
Officers responded to a home on the 1000 block of Cobra Drive just after 11 p.m. Thursday in reference to a reported home invasion and kidnapping, the release said.
Police said Smith broke into the residence, forced 30-year-old Desmond L. Dorsey into a Chrysler 300 at gunpoint, and left.
The release said that the department’s License Plate Reader cameras located the vehicle and confirmed a direction of travel. Additional technology was used to locate the car behind a residence on Jericho Drive, police said.
Officers located Smith and took him into custody. Dorsey was also at the location and was safe, the release said.
“This was not a random incident,’’ the Police Department said in the release. “The victim and suspect are not strangers to one another.’’
Smith is charged with first-degree kidnapping, burglary with intent to terrorize, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release said. He is in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.
