Man killed in Monday night shooting on Smith Road

Hours after Fayetteville Police Chief Kemberle Braden confirmed to city council members that homicides were trending up this year, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was investigating another shooting death in the city.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 10:42 p.m. that a person had been shot at the 3000 block of Smith Road in Fayetteville.

A police department statement early Tuesday morning regarding the investigation said a male was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was not identified, pending next of kin notification.

Additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available, the release said.
