MSG (Ret.) Ronald Lee Hall, passed peacefully at home in Fayetteville, North Carolina on January 25, 2024. For those of us who knew and loved him, this marks the completion of his time to walk among us, but there is no end to his impact on our hearts, no closing on his legacy of leadership and love. There are many ways to define success in life and Ron Hall achieved it in ways that truly matter.
Ron was born September 25, 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the first of four boys, born to Donald and Collette Hall. During his childhood Ron attended Annunciation Catholic Grade School and then De La Salle High School where he received a partial scholarship for his academics. He was an athlete playing football during his freshman year and on the track team as a pole vaulter. At an early age he knew the value of working by having a paper route and then working at the Porky Drive Inn cooking burgers and fries. He also held a job at the Star and Tribune in the service department. He worked there until he graduated from DeLaSalle High School with honors and received a scholarship for his academics.
In 1977 he answered our Nation's call to serve and did so with honor and heroic distinction for more than 21 years, here at home and abroad. He served as a special operations senior sergeant and engineer sergeant, with numerous deployments to South America. For his service and sacrifice he would earn the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Presidential Unit Commendation Award, the Scuba Diver Badge, the Master HALO badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, two Overseas Service Ribbons, an Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Salvadorian Parachutist Badge, a Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Humanitarian Service Medal, among others. He also attended numerous military schools during his career, including the Ranger course and the Special Forces Qualification Course. After his Army career he earned his bachelor's degrees in business administration from Campbell University and worked at Campbell University as an IT administrator. He was also a licensed electrician and instrumental in the building what is now Womack Army Hospital.
Not only was Ron a decorated Soldier, but he was also a loving husband and father. Ron met Nancy in 1985 and they were married for nearly 40 years. He deeply loved and was loved by his daughter and grandsons. Ron would tell you these are the successes in life that truly matter. Ron had an enduring work ethic and was a creative individual, enjoying numerous hobbies such as participating in SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), woodworking, leathercraft, and listening to '60s music.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Colette and his brothers Don & John. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his brother Lon, his daughter Amy and her husband Morgan, and grandsons Colin and Carter.
A funeral with full military honors will take place at 5pm on February 7, 2024 at the Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The family will receive friends prior the service from 4 to 4:45pm.
