Cape Fear's Piland, Seventy-First's Nance take honors

Posted

Anna Piland, Cape Fear, tennis

Piland recently announced she will be playing college tennis for Cal Tech, an impressive achievement in athletics but even more in academics.

Cal Tech is one of the most difficult schools in the nation to earn admission into. Reports say the acceptance rates for applicants is as low as 6%. In addition to her success at Cape Fear that includes a state doubles title and two dual team state championships, Piland has a 4.6 grade point average. She made the "A" honor roll every semester during her high school career and has been recognized for her performance on the PSAT and AP exams.

DeAndre Nance, Seventy-First, football

Nance and his Falcon teammates didn’t win the state title, but it wasn’t because of any shortcomings on his part. Nance rushed 18 teams for 159 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed six of 11 passes for 90 yards and two more scores.
