Portions of Raeford Road to be closed next week for repair work

Posted

Some lanes of Raeford Road near Ireland Drive will be closed starting next week for shoulder repairs, the N.C. Department of Transportation said.

Erosion has damaged the shoulder and slope along Raeford Road where a culvert carries Buckhead Creek underneath the road, the Transportation Department said in a release. Maintenance crews plan to use dump trucks and excavators to add dirt and rip rap to the side of the road to make the repairs.

While the work is being done, the Transportation Department will close two of the three travel lanes headed east – toward the All American Freeway – from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays starting Tuesday.

At other times of the day and on weekends, only one of the three travel lanes will remain closed, the department said.

The department is advising drivers to slow down and be aware of crews and equipment that will be in the area. Drivers also should expect delays.

The repairs are expected to be done by June 10, weather permitting, the department said.

Repairs to the inside of the culvert were done earlier this month without the need to close any lanes, the department said.
