Rebecca (Becky) Sides Riddle was born on September 4, 1944, to Eldridge Sides and Rachel Earnhardt in Albemarle, North Carolina. On February 22, 2023, she entered the gates of heaven, reuniting with her parents and sister, Carolyn.
Becky spent her childhood with dear friends in Haymount on Norwood Street and Oakridge Avenue. She attended Fayetteville High School, where she met and married James Byrd. For 15 years, Becky proudly raised three children. When her youngest entered kindergarten, Becky became the bookkeeper at Alma O. Easom Primary School. She spent several years working for Fayetteville City Schools and Terry Sanford High School. In 1990, she left the school system and began working for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department. During this time, Becky volunteered at Cumberland County Rape Crisis Center, providing support to victims. In 2005, she married Peter Riddle. They enjoyed traveling, beach music, and Nascar races.
When Becky retired from the Sheriff's Department, she spent her time caring and cheering on her grandchildren at various sporting and special events. But what she loved the most was spending time with her husband and Brittany Spaniel, Libby.
Becky is survived by her loving husband, Peter; two sons Jim Byrd (Kimberly) of Pinehurst and Jeff Byrd (Rebecca) of Charleston, SC, daughter, Rebecca McAlister and stepson Kelly Riddle of Dunn; grandchildren Rachel Cole Byrd, Addison Byrd, Davis Byrd, Berton Barco, Thompson Byrd, Cooper Barco, Charles Byrd, Virginia Byrd, and Ellie Riddle; nieces, Dawn Hardwick, Anne Ellis, and nephew, Chris Raisig.
A memorial service will be held at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023,. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cancer Center of Cape Fear Valley Health Center.
