Posted

Sandalwood Drive is closed to traffic after a water main break Friday evening caused a sinkhole, the Fayetteville Police Department said.

The water main break was reported around 6 p.m. near Raeford Road.

“The water main break is on Sandalwood Drive and has caused a significant sinkhole,’’ police said in a release.

The Fayetteville Public Works Commission is on the scene. The road is expected to be closed for six to eight hours while repairs are done, police said.

Traffic on Raeford Road is not affected.

Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route.
