Willie Foster Freeman

Willie Foster Freeman of Fayetteville passed away on June 11, 2022.

Willie was born on September 19, 1950, to the late Weldon and Elizabeth Freeman in Lumber Bridge, NC. Willie accepted Christ at an early age. After joining Rock Spring AME Zion Church, he served faithfully as a member of the church choir, and he usher board for many years.

Willie attended E.E. Smith Senior High School. After high school, he joined the Armed Forces where he served in Vietnam. Willie was awarded the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Metal. After a meritorious military career, he went on to attend North Carolina A&T State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Willie became an educator in the Cumberland County School System where he served students for more than 31 years teaching auto body mechanics. Combining his love for education and golf, Willie spearheaded Westover Senior High School’s first student golf team.

Willie is survived by the love of his life, Cynthia L. Freeman, to whom he was married for over 38 years; son, Nicholas F. Freeman; granddaughters, Aniya, Norah, and grandson, Ethan; daughter, Natalie L. Freeman; grandsons, Isaiah and Carson; daughter, Kelly Charles (Curtis); grandson, Alvin, Jr. and granddaughter, Jessica; daughter, Shelly Stewart (Stacy), and grandson, Joshua; sister, Patricia Manokey; and brothers, Howard Freeman (Vilene), and Cecil Freeman; uncle, Bobby Morrison, and aunts, Priscilla Morrison and Jacqueline Lagrand. Willie was cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 16, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home with Reverend John Morrison officiating. The family will greet friends prior the service at 9:15 to 10:15 AM. Burial to follow the service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
