Events

The North Carolina Homeowner Assistance Fund  is hosting pop-up sites for program information, guidance in the application process and application support.   The Cumberland County event will be at the Salvation Army, 245 Alexander St., on May 4 from 10 a.m.  to 5 p.m.

Derby Run

The Derby Run, in memory of Justin Lopes, is scheduled for 7 a.m.  May 14 at Terry Sanford High School, 2301 Fort Bragg Road.  To register, go to The Derby Run Online Registration (runsignup.com).

 Mother's Day Carriage Rides are scheduled for May 7 from  1 to 9 p.m. in downtown Fayetteville. The private carriage rides will arrive and depart from the Cool Spring Downtown District office at 222 Hay St., across from Pierros Italian Bistro. Tickets are a flat fee of $75, and one ticket purchase covers a group of two to six people.

The Arts Council of Fayetteville-Cumberland County presents its “4th annual 10:10:10 Exhibit – 10 NC Artists, 10 Linear Feet, 10 Self-Curated Exhibitions” on display through May 21 at The Arts Center, 301 Hay St. The exhibit is free and open for public viewing.

The Death by Admiration tour featuring Christian bands Seventh Day Slumber, Decyfer Down, Spoken and Amongst the Giants is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. May 5 at Festival Park. Admission is free.

A Kentucky Derby Party benefitting the Heritage Square Historical Society is scheduled for May 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at 225 Dick St . Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at  Kentucky Derby Party - Run for the Roses (simpletix.com).

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers will host an inaugural “Jackie Robinson Showcase” on May 5th at Segra Stadium,460 Hay Street. The showcase will feature three high school baseball teams, …

Community Conversation: Health Care Should Not Be Black and White is scheduled for May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fuller Recreation Center, 6627 Bunce Road. The free event will include a panel discussion with experts in health disparities, maternal health outcomes and the effect of not expanding Medicaid coverage. 

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Safe Kids Cumberland County will host DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the N.C. National Guard Armory and Stedman Drug. There is also a permanent medication drop box inside the Sheriff’s Office in downtown Fayetteville.

A Night of Cuisine and Comedy with Chef Peter Minaki "Kalofagas" and Basile on May 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hellenic Center, 614 Oakridge Ave. Tickets are $100 per person.

The seventh annual Dog Day in the Garden, a joint fundraiser for the garden and the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, is scheduled for May 1 from noon to 5 p.m. The garden is at  536 N. Eastern Blvd.

The Spring Lake Recreation & Parks department presents a Girls Empowerment Group for ages 9-13 the fourth Saturday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. The meetings, which are held at 245 Ruth St., include games, food and positive talk. For more information, call 910-436-0011.

The Care Clinic presents the 22nd annual Toast of the Town - Wine, Beer, & Spirits Tasting and Silent Auction on May 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Cape Fear Botanical Garden, 536 N. Eastern Blvd. Tickets are $100 in advance, $125 at the door.

Lewis & Clark Circus: A Great American Circus is scheduled for May  14 to May 17 at Edward Mendoza Park, 1774 Little River Road in Spring Lake.

The Child Advocacy Center presents the Child Abuse Summit 2022: Creating Pathways to Promote Resilient Communities on April 28 from 8 a.m to 4:45 p.m. at  the John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex, 6627 Old Bunce Road.  Register at  Southern Regional AHEC.

The Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crimestoppers is hosting the 38th annual Crimestoppers Benefit BBQ on April 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Harris Teeter,  2800 Raeford Road.
