Cumberland County students nominated to attend N.C. Governor’s School

Forty-nine Cumberland County Schools students have been nominated to attend the North Carolina Governor’s School, according to a school system news release.

They include 33 academic nominees, selected by a district committee, and 16 nominees in the arts, selected at the local school level, the release said.

The students will compete at the state level for the chance to attend the summer residential program for gifted high school students. The program is administered by the State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction.

Nominees will be notified of selection decisions in March, the news release said.

The Cumberland County nominees and their categories are:

  • Cumberland Academy 6-12 Virtual: Anna Gathright, English.
  • Cross Creek Early College: Christopher Addaman, natural science; Donniela Strange, English; Kristina Nguyen, visual arts; Kyneiq Stallings, visual arts; Mariah Fernandez, social science; Niyani Owens-Mosely, natural science; Talon Alexander, natural science.
  • Cape Fear High School: Alexis Martin, instrumental music; Arora Mullin, social science; Joshua Pirro, instrumental music; Lailyn Evans, social science; Lydia Dennison, English; Sierra Noel, social science.
  • Cumberland International Early College: Emily Sacquety, natural science; Keren Asare, natural science.
  • Cumberland Polytechnic Early College: Gwendolyn Carson, natural science; Kristen Hurtado, visual arts; Sierra Neuhauser, social science.
  • E.E. Smith High School: Kenneth Williams, natural science; Saniya Bostick, natural science.
