Cumberland County Schools (CCS) proudly announces that Dr. Shameka Joyner has been selected as the 2024 North Carolina Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year. This prestigious award, presented by the North Carolina Association of Secondary School Principals (NCPAPA), recognizes and celebrates assistant principals in secondary schools for their outstanding dedication and achievements.

Joyner, who serves as an assistant principal at Pine Forest Middle School, has demonstrated exemplary leadership, a commitment to curriculum development and a strong dedication to personalized education within our school community.

“As superintendent of Cumberland County Schools, I am thrilled to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Shameka Joyner on being named the 2024 North Carolina Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year,” Superintendent of CCS Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr. said. “Her exceptional leadership, dedication to our students and commitment to fostering a positive learning environment at Pine Forest Middle School make her truly deserving of this honor.”

As the 2024 recipient, Joyner will proudly represent North Carolina in the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Assistant Principal of the Year program. This national program celebrates middle-level and high school assistant principals who have exhibited exemplary leadership skills and educational expertise.

"There are a plethora of other assistant principals in my district and the State of North Carolina serving just as hard as myself — with all of their might," Joyner said. "I receive this award not only in my name but in their names also and pray that it empowers all stakeholders in education to continue to work together to make decisions that support the success of our students."

Joyner will join other state Assistant Principals of the Year in Washington, D.C., from April 4 to 8, 2024, for a celebratory event. The gathering will provide a platform for educational leaders nationwide to engage, collaborate and share insights. NASSP will cover hotel and travel expenses for all 2024 state Assistant Principals of the Year.

Additionally, she will be invited to attend the 2024 National Principals Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, from July 15 to 17. NASSP will cover registration costs, while NCPAPA will provide hotel accommodations and flight expenses.

Joyner will also receive well-deserved recognition at the NCPAPA Fall Instructional Symposium. CCS congratulates Joyner on this remarkable achievement and has every confidence in her ability to represent the secondary assistant principals in North Carolina with distinction.
