Ellen Tew Benton, 90, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022.
Ellen was a wonderful spouse and mother, friend to many and faithful servant to our Lord. She enjoyed gatherings with her family and church family. She loved music and would play the piano for hours on end and enjoyed singing. Ellen was a faithful member of Lafayette Baptist Church for 60 plus years, where her service to the Lord shined bright as a member of the choir, a Vacation Bible School and Girls Auxiliary teacher, WMU director, a volunteer in the community through the church and much more.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Benton; sons, Thomas and Steven Benton; granddaughter, Melissa Crady; sisters, Viola Hollingworth and Clestea Keene; and brothers, Alfred and Alvis Tew. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Vines of Knightdale; son, Robert Benton of Angier; daughter-in-law, Ally Benton of Fayetteville; sisters, Alma Mintz and Wilena King of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Lou Carol Morris of Winston-Salem and Lorna Benton of Highpoint; grandchildren, Jennifer Tucker (Shayne), Angela Ivey (David), and Ryan Frazee of Fayetteville; great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Steele Enloe, Blythe, Anabelle and Tanner Crady, and Jaxson Frazee and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 11:30 AM at Lafayette Baptist Church, 501 Hope Mills RD., Fayetteville, NC 28304. The family will receive friends from 10:15 to 11:15 AM at the Church. Burial will follow the service at Lafayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lafayette Baptist Church in Ellen’s name.
