Veterans Day events you won’t want to miss

With Veterans Day on Saturday, there are plenty of events in the Fayetteville area to celebrate the holiday this weekend. Whether you are active duty military, a military spouse or family member, a veteran, or just a patriotic American, Fayetteville is the place to be for the iconic fall holiday. Here’s a list of the top Veterans Day events happening in and around the city this weekend.

Friday

  • The Spring Lake Public Art Unveiling will showcase Spring Lake’s first public art project, a collaboration between the Fayetteville Arts Council, the Spring Lake Appearance Committee and the Spring Lake Veterans Committee. The unveiling will take place at Beatitude House, 102 N. Main St., Spring Lake, starting at 11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.
  • Fayetteville Technical Community College will host its annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony at 11 a.m. to honor military service members. Andréa Allard, the director of transition services at the N.C. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, will be a guest speaker. The event, free and open to the public, will be at the FTCC Gazebo, 2201 Hull Rd. Refreshments will be served afterward. 
  • The Fayetteville Arts Council is hosting its second annual Native American Heritage Month art exhibition: "Still Here, Still Native." The goal of the exhibition, according to the event page, is “to show that Native American arts and culture are ‘Still Here’ through a cultural exhibition of fine art and regalia. The free public reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. The opening will feature live music and dance performances by the Cumberland County Culture Class, as well as light refreshments. The exhibition will remain open to the public during normal gallery hours through Jan. 6, 2024.”

Saturday (Veterans Day)

  • As part of its distinguished speaker series, the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum will host speaker William Yeske, a combat veteran and author of "Damn the Valley.” The event will be held at the museum, 100 Bragg Blvd., from 1 to 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 and free for active duty military members.   • Resolute Warriors is hosting a Veterans Day Ruck and Lunch at 10 a.m at the Jordan Soccer Complex, 445 Treetop Dr., for service members and their families. The event will include free lunch and a “ruck” down the Cape Fear River Trail. To RSVP, text your name, email and party size to Justin at 404-247-2490. 
  • Dirtbag Ales is hosting a Military Family Appreciation Day, aka Heroes Homecoming, featuring a chili cook-off, family photo booth and car smash event. The brewery is also releasing its Heroes Homecoming Pilsner and donating $1 per pint sold to Warrior Bridge. The event is at Dirtbag Ales Brewery and Taproom, 5435 Corporation Dr. in Hope Mills, from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10. 
  • The Dirty Whiskey Craft Cocktail Bar is hosting its fifth annual Ride for a Wreath, a motorcycle ride to honor and remember veterans. The ride will start with a ceremony at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson, 3950 Sycamore Dairy Rd., at 10 a.m. and end at Dirty Whiskey at noon. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Fort Bragg Harley Davidson. The cost is $20 per bike and $10 per passenger. 
  • American Legion Post 230 is hosting a Veterans Day celebration at 1654 Veteran’s Dr. in Spring Lake from 2 to 7 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature various activities, lunch, fundraising activities, demonstrations and award presentations. 
  • Black Ops Paintball is hosting a Veterans Day Bash from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at its facility at 2112 River Rd. in Fayetteville. It is open to the public and will include food, prizes, fireworks and paintball scenario — a paintball game in which players participate in a story — produced by Black Ops Team.
