William “Bill” Sherman passed away on June 27, 2022, at the age of 101 at Fox Hollow Assisted Living in Pinehurst. He was born in Bay City, Michigan on April 27, 1921, to William and Thelma Sherman.
Bill graduated from Michigan State University, where he was a drum major. After graduating he enlisted into the US Army. He was a proud veteran of WWII, receiving many medals including: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupational Medal, and Senior Parachutist Bade.
Bill met and married, Anna Sutton, a native born in Fayetteville, NC, in October of 1948 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. They settled in the Fayetteville area and Bill later opened Lafayette Reality where he was a realtor and senior appraiser.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Thelma Sherman; spouse, Anna Sutton; daughter, Elizabeth Lewis and grandson, Gregg Lewis. He is survived by his three children, Parker Lindsay (Kemp), Dade Sherman (Starla), and Jimmy Sherman (Gail); grandchildren, Kate Lindsay, Chip Lewis, Brittney Gaeckle, Brooke Gurley, Jamie, Craig and Neil Sherman; great grandchildren, Madison Lindsay, Anna Sutton, and Duke Gaeckle, Amelia, Caroline, and Evelyn Sherman, John, Anna, and Jimmy Lewis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on July 9, 2022, at 11 AM with Reverend Dade Sherman officiating. A private burial will be held for the family prior to the service.
